to lose / wild nights

To lose – if One can find again –
To miss – if One shall meet –
The Burglar cannot rob – then –
The Broker cannot cheat.
So build the hillocks gaily –
Thou little spade of mine
Leaving nooks for Daisy
And for Columbine –
You and I the secret
Of the Crocus know –
Let us chant it softly –
« There is no more snow » !

Wild nights – Wild nights !
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury !
Futile – the winds –
To a Heart in port –
Done with the Compass –
Done with the Chart !
Rowing in Eden –
Ah – the Sea !
Might I but moor – tonight –
In thee !

l'enterrement de Jean Anouilh

Le chien suivait l'enterrement du maître.
Il pensait aux caresses ;

It struck me everyday

It struck me – every Day –

The lightning was as new

As if the Cloud that instant slit

And let the Fire through –

It burned Me – in the Night –

It Blistered to My Dream –

It sickened fresh opon my sight –

With every Morning’s beam–

I thought that Storm – was brief –

The Maddest – quickest by –

But Nature lost the Date of This –

And left it in the Sky – (636)

It was not Death, for I stood up

It was not Death, for I stood up,
And all the Dead, lie down -
It twas not Night, for all the Bells
Put out their Tongues, for Noon.

It was not Frost, for on my Flesh
I felt Siroccos - crawl -
Nor Fire - for just my marble feet
Could keep a Chancel, cool -
And yet, it tasted, like them all,
 The Figures I have seen
Set orderly, for Burial,
Reminded me, of mine -

As if my life were shaven,
And fitted to a frame,
And could not breathe without a key,
And 'twas like midnight, some -

When everything that ticked - has stopped -
And space stares - all around -
Or Grisly frosts - first Autumn morns,
Repeal the Beating Ground -

But, most, like Chaos - Stopless - cool -
Without a Chance, or spar -
Or even a Report of Land
To justify - Despair.
